When this independent watchmaking company from Neuchâtel created the fantastical line of postmodern horology known as Hautlence, few at first understood the phenomenal advances and value they represented.
It was avant garde… as confusing as the company name, which is an anagram of the town in which they were crafted. Under the leadership of George-Henri Meylan and Guillaume Tetu, the company sought to push the boundaries of contemporary watchmaking, bringing architectural principles in miniature form inside the movements of their precious timepieces.
Along with the imaginative movements, they created new ways of reading time and watching time pass, without the sacrifice of legibility for the wearer. Despite the trapeze work of the organs of the watch, all in plain view beneath the sapphire display, the HL04 does not take a split second for the enthusiast to tell the exact time.
In all, there are over 150 pieces moving in symphonic harmony! The watch is housed in a white gold case and delivered in an incredible presentation box, with a travel case and even a loupe to admire the intricate movement. And of the movement, it is as sophisticated and unusual as the watch is beautiful and contemporary!
No loss of luxury is suffered, even though the price point is tens of thousands of dollars less than competitors in the sphere of independent timepieces.
Only 88 pieces were made of this endearing model, with its jumping hours and pantographing retrograde minutes indicator. The architecture of the watch, including its blued triple struts, 24 jewels and mesmerizing trailing seconds dial, are all displayed beneath sapphire on the front and rear of the watch.
The case, resembling a 1970s TV, is as comfortable to wear as it is to view. The small run was sold out in a short time after its 2006 delivery, but here we have an excellent example to offer, and at a lower price then the original retail.
